A few days after its launch in the UK, Google’s Chromebook Pixelbook has already started to take on a life of its own.
It’s the latest addition to the range of Google’s Android-powered Chromebooks to be launched in the US, including the Pixelbook Book and Pixelbook Pro.
Both laptops are powered by Intel’s latest quad-core Core i7-6950X processor and have a 13-inch screen and a 256GB SSD.
Google has also bundled a Wi-Fi 802.11ac Wi-Gigadget adapter to make the Pixelbooks even more useful as a tablet, and a Bluetooth headset with an integrated microphone for communicating with Google’s other hardware partners.
The Pixelbook also comes with an optional stylus for pen-based input, which can be used to type and draw on the tablet.
And Google has included an NFC tag reader in the laptop’s right palm to allow it to charge its optional Android smartphone in the same way that it would with a smartphone.
All of this means that the PixelBook can be charged via a standard USB port, although the laptop is also available in a 32GB model with a microSD card slot and the optional Wi-Go Pro wireless charging cable.
But that’s not all, as the Pixel book comes with a dedicated, built-in webcam that lets you use your Chromebook as a webcam, as well as a fingerprint reader and a microphone for the Pixel speakers.
And of course, it also has a number of other built-ins that Google will surely love, like a fingerprint scanner and a fingerprint-sensing reader.
And when it comes to features, there’s a lot to like in the Pixel notebook.
It has a 12.5-inch 1080p touchscreen, with an Intel Celeron processor clocked at 1.9GHz and 1GB of RAM.
It also comes in two versions: a standard 13.3-inch touchscreen with a 1TB hard drive, and the larger 14-inch model that comes with 4GB of memory and 2TB of RAM, for a total of 12GB of storage.
It runs Android 7.0 Nougat with Google Assistant installed, and includes a fingerprint sensor and a capacitive touchpad, which allows you to pinch the screen to activate the microphone and use it as a keyboard.
And, as you might expect, the Chromebook is pretty light at just under 6lbs.
But if you’re looking for a good-looking, powerful Chromebook, the Pixel laptop might not be the right choice.
If you want a lightweight Chromebook, this Pixelbook is certainly the laptop for you.
